Claire Gingell is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Dursley, United Kingdom.
Her quirky and original artworks take inspiration from a life-long obsession with animals and the natural world.
Regularly commissioned by private and commercial clients alike - Claire's beautiful works are available as originals and signed limited edition prints.
Claire discovered her unique way of mark making after attempting to remove an ink-blot accident with a small amount of bleach. She found that the introduction of water and bleach led to the black ink releasing some wonderful purple, blue and green hues.
This led to a fastidious collecting of different types of inks and to developing a process of layering different brands of black and brown ink with dilutions of water and a variety of bleaching agents – thankfully now more environmentally safe options are used.
Claire then adds coloured inks or watercolour to some pieces to add the more vibrant accent colours.
The process is slow, as every layer needs to be dried and pressed before a new layer can be added. Some pieces take months to complete.
